Brahmasri Dr. Madugula Nagaphani Sarma, hailing from Kadavakolanu village near Tadipadtri in Andhra Pradesh, was born into a family renowned for its Vedic scholars and poets.
From a young age, his passion for Vedic literature, poetry, and music was evident. Guided by his father, he swiftly gained expertise in Vedic philosophy, Puranas, Itihasas, and spiritual wisdom. Driven by an insatiable thirst for
knowledge, he diligently honed his skills in Avadhanam. Remarkably, at just 14 years of age, he accomplished his first Avadhanam, becoming the youngest Avadhani in the country.

Apart from the 8 aspects of Avadhanam which are Dattapadi, Samasyaa Pooranam, Varnana, Aasuvu, Nishiddhakshari, Aprastuta Prasangam, Anuvaadam, Dr. Sarma was the first to introduce new aspects like Mee Prasnaku Naa Paata, Swarapadi (Music), Nrityapadi (Dance) and Chitrapadi (Drawing), highlighting the inter-relationship among language, literature, arts and culture.
